Winners Named for Inaugural AUVSI XCELLENCE Awards (WhiteFox)

DENVER — Finalists for the inaugural XCELLENCE Awards by the Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International (AUVSI) were named today during an awards ceremony at AUVSI XPONENTIAL 2018 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. The winners represent accomplishments by companies, organizations and individuals across the unmanned systems community.

DC/MARVEL Alum JEANINE SCHAEFER Joins BOOM! STUDIOS as Executive Editor

Marvel and DC alum Jeanine Schaefer has joined BOOM! Studios in the newly-created role of Executive Editor. Described as "a leadership role" by the publisher, Schaefer will also over see a new line of titles not-yet-announced.

“I’m so excited to join BOOM! Studios right now, as they take the next step in their growth as a progressive voice in comics,” said Schaefer. “BOOM! Studios’ mission and outlook, their dedication to partnering with creators to expand the scope of comics and the breadth of their readership are all vital to the health of the industry.”

Schaefer will report to BOOM!'s Editor-In-Chief Matt Gagnon, who calls her "a powerful voice."

Graphic Novel ‘Bolivar’ Tapped For Movie by Fox, 21 Laps & BOOM!

Fox has acquired feature rights to Bolivar, the debut graphic novel by author/illustrator Sean Rubin. The book was published by the BOOM! Studios imprint Archaia last November and it was heralded as one of NPR and New York Public Library’s best children’s books of 2017 and is nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Children’s Comic.

Bolivar is the story of a little girl living in New York City who discovers that her next-door neighbor is the world’s last living dinosaur. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will produce through 21 Laps alongside Ross Richie and Stephen Christy from BOOM! Studios. Becca Edelman will oversee the project for 21 Laps and Adam Yoelin will co-produce and oversee for BOOM!. Kira Goldberg will oversee the project for the studio.

Occipital's Bridge Engine is now available to all developers

With many tech announcements surrounding new applications for AR and VR implementation, it is no surprise that many companies are looking for ways to improve the industry with creative applications, hardware, and software. It's easy to look at big players like Oculus, Snap, and so forth, but there are many other smaller teams making big leaps, as well.

Take for example San Francisco-based company, Occipital. For years, the company has been working in the AR/VR field to provide better sensor and mapping tools for gauging space. They released a tool called the Structure Sensor that worked with an iPad to map out areas in a home so designers and DIYers could get a better grasp on the area they were working within.
